Anoxic Filter build and testing began on August 28,2010.

Once again these test are from Dr. Franco's blog of the Anoxic Filter in Italy. The reason I added this test in here is to show that if you build a Anoxic Filter and are very patient and followed all my instruction, then it should work as stated.

The test began on August 28, 2010. However, because of delay in the order of laterite we were able to fill only 9 baskets 28x28 cm.
The test will be performed daily by analyzing the values of ammonium nitrates and phosphates and possibly two lakes: ( Ed: sub lakes in Italian for ponds in English.)

1) Pond with 25 cubic meters of water, filter rooms, mechanical and biological pond for a network that is filled with slices of tuff. In the filter are laid bare-root plants. The filter is long 6 meters wide and high 50x60 cm. The powers a pump 16,000 liters, Askoll Max Flo, who has to overcome a height difference of 70 cm in height. The entire flow passes through a UV sterilizer TMC PROCLEAR of 55 W. In the pond are also planted water lilies and lotuses.
The pond is home to 2 scripta turtles than 20 cm, about 30 adult Koi 40-50 cm, about 30 adult goldfish, and many (about 15) Koi adolescents of 15-30 cm.
The food given each day is roughly equivalent to what you are capable of containing three punches.

2) Pond of 8000 liters with gross built railway sleepers arranged in a square. Internal measures 2.25 x2, 25x1, 50h. E 'coated with PVC reinforced. Filter 800 liters of rooms in which a total of 28 baskets will be placed biocenosici (currently there are only nine baskets for momentary lack of laterite). Baskets in the pond and will not place any kind of vegetable or plant. It 'a filter Mechanical Sieve (Sieve Midi Aquaforte), fed by a pump Max Flo Askoll liters by 8000, while missing the UVC lamp. The water of the pond and filter are at the same level.
The Koi pond is home to 6 from 45-50 cm, 5-6 by 30-35 Koi and Koi na thirty baby from 7-10 cm.
The food given each day is roughly equivalent to that which is capable of holding a fist.
If you have values in excess of ammonium values from 0.4 to 0.5 for the day, the pond that is home to the anoxic filter will not be given food.

The test cost issues can not be done in conditions of absolute equality: the same volumes of water, same temperature, same sunlight, same load of fish and food, but given the nature of the anoxic filter will be sufficient to see that the levels of ammonia nitrate and phosphate do not board, which normally takes place in a small lake with a conventional filter because of its basic biochemical reaction involving first the conversion of ammonia to nitrite and then nitrate by specific classes of bacteria known as nitrifiers. Confirm correct operation of the filter is the presence of clear water sign of total absence of nitrates and phosphates. At the time the water has been deliberately brought in haze (see figure below) for exposure to the sun left the water stop for a week.

Hello Lio
let me ask you a question:
how would you rate the levels of ammonium in area alert after 30 days of exercise?
believe that the result is comparable, better and worse than a traditional filter-chamber?
Ciaooooooo

The ammonium salt as you can see every time that administers food (you have to admit this happens in all the lakes in the world), I mean a few things:

1) The day after the ammonia levels are almost always dropped (sometimes requiring 48 hours since the first load of food given). Please note that were not introduced bacteria starter and the load of fish is quite high.

2) The values of nitrate never increase. Things they have ammonia missing? The rule of nitrification and nitrate should appear and then accumulate. Please note that the pond is completely devoid of plants, and anaerobic zone for denitrification were virtually absent.

3) The pond started immediately with this new filter, while other parties have a pond experiment started after replacing the filter, which may have accelerated the formation of bacteria.
Forum Koiphen "DKoinut" urged me to keep going. He also experienced some slowness in starting, but the data you have given me, then your pond is a "party" and now is only active filter with Novak.

ok
the slow start that is for all filters
on nitrate did not understand because the information is not made explicit
I thought just the same by measuring ammonia
in total how many koi you right now?
of that size / weight?
it would be nice to do a calculation of the organic load

Read the article especially in the well on the test day every now and then retry the nitrate and is always of equal value compared to that of the aqueduct that to me is 10 mg / l.
The fish in the pond contents are all for sale. If you want to try to make the calculation of the organic load and tell me if it seems consistent with the values of ammonia that can be found.

So the situation has stabilized after about 45 days?

It seems so, but since I finished the test of the night I started with the JBL and since then the ammonia is zero. I tried to do a test with a drop of ammonia in a glass and test so that water and ammonia values are reported.
The cases are two: one or other of the test measures wrong, or the coincidence has it that the party just when the filter is the replacement of the test.
A day Jimmy makes me have his test della Sera and compare it.

tonight I'll take the test della Sera so you can take the test even with that ....

I followed carefully all the tests and I will try to test its effectiveness.
I have a pond slightly smaller than the one used for your test with 5 koi about 45 cm. The filter-chamber, built by my husband and we use the Perlon wool and sponge as a mechanical filter.

bitch ... hello, welcome among us ... I would say that with 5 koi that size may be enough 7 / 8 baskets .... but then if you should wish to put other fish !!!!.... spending for a basket is not very high, I'd go with 10 baskets from 28x28 space permettendo.saluti

Continue from there the discussion moved from http://laghettiecarpekoi.forumfree.it/?t=4...st=255 # lastpost about anoxic filtration. At present, the following table represents the reservation for the purchase abroad of materials making up the basket biocenosico.
They make 67 baskets to anyone willing to apply the system to prorpio pond.

Hello everyone,
I also add me to the team 's purchase of the bags UK.
In view of the excellent work of Lio and Jimmy and tips Book 30 sacks to build in the near future, as many baskets 28 x 28.
Thanks

Ok Asimov, add your 30 bags

Unless the unexpected departure is scheduled for 26 this month.

How are you? You are back from the trip with all materials?
question?
The laterite that you put in the basket at that price is the market?
it is basically a clay can be found online prices to be caviar.
